Since 2012, the Constitution of Hungary has defined marriage as a union exclusively between a man and woman; effectively prohibiting same sex marriages.

In April of 2025, the Hungarian government passed a constitutional amendment giving the government the power to ban LGBT events and discussion of LGBT topics. The punishments may incur a fine or the loss of citizenship. Additionally, the government is reportedly now using facial recognition technology to enforce its censorship laws.
