Goa Rainbow Trust was legally established on October 31, 2018. However, Chris Fernandes, who is the CEO and Founder, began having meetings back in 2013 under the name Goa Rainbow in order to unite LGBTQ+ individuals in Goa and help each one get comfortable with the others. Back in 2013, since Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code was still valid as a criminal law, many feared being a part of any such meetings. So Goa Rainbow died down and in 2018, after the unforgettable Section 377 verdict by the Supreme Court of India, a small celebratory gathering in Panaji (Capital of Goa) was where Chris met Francis Fernandes (Co-founder and Chairman) and Rishabh Chodankar (Co-founder and Secretary), and they legally registered the organization as Goa Rainbow Trust.
