Reports (3)
- Status is not correct "Ilga Europe says that there is protection on the ground of goods and services for both orientation and identity in Iceland"
- Status is not correct "Iceland has strong legal protections against housing discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. These protections are enshrined in the Icelandic Constitution, the Act on Equal Status and Equal Rights Irrespective of Gender, and the Act on the Implementation of the Equal Treatment Directive.
The Act on Equal Status and Equal Rights Irrespective of Gender prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation in all areas of society, including housing. This means that it is illegal for landlords, real estate agents, or anyone else involved in the housing market to deny housing to someone, or to charge them more or less for housing, based on their sexual orientation.
The Act on the Implementation of the Equal Treatment Directive extends these protections to gender identity. This means that it is also illegal to discriminate against someone in housing based on their gender identity, which includes their transgender status.
The Act on Equal Status and Equal Rights Irrespective of Gender was first passed in 1996, and it was amended in 2010 to include gender identity as a protected category. This means that protections against housing discrimination based on sexual orientation have been in place since 1996, and protections against housing discrimination based on gender identity have been in place since 2010."
- All information is correct, just adding sources "The Icelandic Act on Equal Status and Equal Rights of Women and Men (No. 10/2008) prohibits discrimination on various grounds, including sexual orientation. Moreover, the Icelandic Act on Equal Treatment Irrespective of Race and Ethnic Origin (No. 85/2018) provides a broader framework for protection against discrimination.
While these acts do not specifically mention housing, they set a general standard for equal treatment that would extend to housing and other social areas. Additionally, housing discrimination can be reported to the Icelandic Centre for Gender Equality or other relevant authorities, who can take action against such practices."
