Description | Columbia, SC is the capital city and second most populous city of South Carolina. It is currently the only region to establish a ordinance against the practice of conversion therapy within South Carolina's borders. The ordinace was passed by a 4-3 vote and only applies to licensed therapists who may recommend pathologizing minors. Local officials stated they had recieved hundreds of messages in support or opposition for the measure. As state law supersedes local law, the potential for the ban to be nullified is possible. In February 2022, a bill was being considered to not only legitimaze the practice of conversion therapies but render Columbia's ban defunct through the senate. The bill remains in languish. |
