- Note field is incorrect "Civil unions are not the same as a marriage. Civils unions give a tax break, but isn't protected by the constitution. Also not full equality in terms of adoption rights. Also in a (heterosexual) marriage of a doctor and someone else, the someone else gets some benefits if the doctor dies first. This is not the case in a civil union.

Also if an immigrant marries a german civilist they don't have to stay in asylum [not sure if this is the correct word. the german word is "Asyl" (refuge for immigrants?)] instead they can stay with their SO.
