Description | There are no official guidelines in place for accessing gender affirming care in Bulgaria. An endocrinologist in Bulgaria would be able to prescribe gender affirming care, but due to conservative attitudes and lack of knowledge in how to deal with trans patients, they often refuse. Due to the complex nature of the situation - on one hand there not being any concrete laws to ban or restrict gender affirming care, but on the other hand the lack of proper guidelines and rampant transphobia, and on top of that the lack of trustworthy sources on the matter, the status of gender affirming care in Bulgaria is ambiguous. | There is little available information about gender-affirming care in Bulgaria. edited by fem_enby_queen_07769. The situation of gender affirming care in Bulgaria is complex, therefore labelling it as "legal" is misleading.

Description | Despite no concrete laws banning or restricting gender affirming care in Bulgaria, due to the lack of availability of gender affirming care as a whole, the conservative attitude of Bulgarian doctors as a whole - meaning that most would not prescribe gender affirming hormone therapy or blockers to a minor - the age of medical consent being strictly 18, and many attempts to ban gender affirming care for minors in the past - it is certainly at the minimum restricted for minors. | There is little available information about gender-affirming care in Bulgaria.
