Description | Censorship became "other punishment" in the state of Texas, and in Florida Govt. DeSantis wants to ban LGBT topics from being discussed in schools. Generally, LGBT Topics are considered under the Free Speech Clause. Due to the nature of the current laws, and state decisions such as in Florida; "Varies by region" is the best indicator to use. |

GLAAD: “President Trump claims to be a strong proponent of freedom of speech, yet he is clearly committed to censorship of any information containing or related to LGBTQ Americans and issues that we face. This action proves the Trump administration’s goal of making it as difficult as possible for LGBTQ Americans to find federal resources or otherwise see ourselves reflected under his presidency. Sadly for him, our community is more visible than ever; and this pathetic attempt to diminish and remove us will again prove unsuccessful.”

- Status is not correct "Texas' H.B.20 legislation does not "censor" LGBT+ issues. The law maintains that citizens may sue if they feel they are discriminated against by social media platforms for their viewpoints/political beliefs by having their posts/accounts blocked or banned. This law would not permit, in any way shape or form, a member of the LGBT+ community to be sued or silenced. Quite the contrary, the law makes it clear the State of Texas wants people to post anything that they want without repercussions. It is incorrect to frame Texas' law as censoring LGBT+ individuals.

- Status is not correct "Curriculum restrictions do not constitute censorship as they do not restrict discussion"
- Newer law has been passed "florida “don’t say gay" bill"
- Status is not correct "No one is being censored in the Florida bill. Teachers are just being instructed to not say certain things. It is not a violation of free speech because teachers are consenting to the job. They can speak about anything off the clock. Censorship is a limit on free speech. This is the wrong term in this context."
- Newer law has been passed "Florida has passed said bill that bans any lgbtq references or depictions in schools"
